D-Lysergic acid amide, LSA, or Ergine is a naturally occurring psychedelic with similar effects as LSD. It is found in Morning Glory Seeds (Ipomoea Tricolor), Hawaiian Baby Woodrose (Argyreia Nervosa), Ololiuhqui (Rivea Corymbosa), certain species of fungi, and various species of Convolvulaceae. The psychedelic hallucinogen properties are usually accumulated in the seeds.

History of LSA

Ergine or LSA has been used by the native South American people for a long time. The native healers used Ololiuhqui (Rivea Corymbosa) in shamanic healing ceremonies while the indigenous people of Mexico used Ipomoea Violacea (Sea Moonflower) as sacraments sometimes along with the seeds of Rivea Corymbosa.

In 1941, Richard Schultes reported ingestion of Morning Glory by Mazatec tribes to “commune with the gods”, a ritual that is still in practice today.

It wasn’t until Albert Hofmann discovered the use of LSA for human activity in 1947. He self-administered a dose of 500mg which left him in a dreamy state with incoherent thoughts. Hofmann felt normal after a short sleep and the effects lasted for only 5 hours.

In 1959, Hofmann was the first to isolate chemically pure ergine from the seeds of Turbina Corymbosa, determining that it, and other alkaloids, were acting as the main active components in the seeds.

Effects of LSA

Though not as potent as LSD, LSA can produce psychedelic effects similar to LSD. LSA brings the user to a happy, dreamy state. It can give a very clear, mental trip with strong visual and auditory effects.
