Ipomoea Tricolor (morning glory)
Ipomoea tricolor (morning glory) is a plant species from Mexico. This tropical plant is known in Dutch as "blauwe winde" (blue wind). Just like the Argyreia nervosa (Hawaiian baby woodrose), the morning glory belongs to the convolvulaceae family. The seeds of the morning glory also contain a natural tryptamine, better known as LSA (lysergic acid amide). The seeds are edible and have a psychoactive effect. The plant is closely related to LSD, although the effects are not as strong.
In addition to the hallucinogenic properties of the seeds, the morning glory is also popular as a vine. This is due to its beautiful flowers. There are different types of morning glory. The Flying Saucer, for example, has a flower size of no less than 10 centimetres, displayed in lilac to sky blue colours with white stripes. At Worldherbals, you can buy the commonly used Heavenly Blue seeds. These are used to induce an excellent trip experience and because of their high LSA content.
Use of Morning Glory
There are different ways to take morning glory. If you eat the seeds, keep in mind that whatever you have eaten before will affect your experience. That is why we recommend eating the seeds on an almost empty stomach. That means that you should not eat anything for 4 to 6 hours before taking the seeds. When eating the seeds, it is important to chew them as long as possible, which will optimise the binding process of the substance with your saliva. Then you can swallow the seed substance. Another method is grinding the morning glory seeds. After grinding, allow them to soak in water for about half an hour. Then filter the brew before drinking it. A third possibility is soaking the seeds in water for 3 to 4 days, making sure to change the water regularly. You can eat the morning glory seeds after removing the soft white substance that surrounds it. This method is best if you want to minimise the adverse physical effects. Keep in mind that the effects of the seeds will also decrease somewhat.
Dose and Effects
After ingesting the Ipomoea tricolor (morning glory), it usually takes a few hours for the psychedelic effects to be felt at their strongest. An average trip lasts 6 to 10 hours. The intensity of the trip depends on the dose and the user's personal state of mind. The following doses can be applied for morning glory:
- Mild trip: 50 to 100 seeds (1.5 to 3 grams)
- Normal trip: 100 to 250 seeds (3 to 6 grams)
- Very strong trip: 250 to 400 seeds (6 to 10 grams)
- Heavy trip: more than 400 seeds (more than 10 grams)
Effects and Side Effects
The seeds of the Ipomoea tricolor (morning glory) contain LSA, a so-called psychedelic. LSA is closely related to LSD, although the effects are much more intense. In general, morning glory produces a kind of quiet, dream-like experience. Consciousness begins to fade away and you often experience new perspectives and a feeling of cheerfulness. You also develop a keen interest in many of the things happening around you. In terms of side effects, be aware that you could experience a strong feeling of nausea when the trip starts. This could last for over an hour. Some users describe an intensely mellow experience.
You can order 10 grams of Ipomoea tricolor (morning glory) seeds from Worldherbals. Please be aware that use by individuals under the age of 18 is not permitted. Always keep morning glory out of the reach and sight of children. Storing it in a cool and dry place is also recommended.
Caution: although using morning glory can be a great experience, there are also a few things to keep in mind. Do not operate a motor vehicle after consuming. You should also not take morning glory if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Are you feeling gloomy or depressed? In that case, the use of morning glory is not recommended. The same applies to people suffering from any form of schizophrenia. Do not combine Ipomoea tricolor (morning glory) with alcohol, medication or MAO inhibitors such as Banisteriopsis caapi. This could lead to serious psychological problems.
