What is Cannabis?

Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants, which includes 3 main types: Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis.

Cannabis Sativa strains are higher in the THC. Due to the high levels of THC its psychoactive potential is much higher than the one of Cannabis Indica. Sativa comes from Columbia, Mexico and Thailand. It is tall, thin plant, with much narrower leaves and lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and can reach heights of 5 to 6 meters in a single season.

Cannabis Indica is just about the opposite of Sativa. It has more of the active compound Cannabidiol (CBD) and therefore is more suitable for a medical treatment. Smoke has more of a body type effect: stony high that is relaxing. Indica comes from Afghanistan, Morocco and Tibet. It is a short dense plant, with broad leaves and often grows a darker green.

Cannabis Ruderalis has a little to no THC. It is used mostly to create hybrids with desired traits (cross breeding). Effect of every hybrid is a little bit special, because of the indica/sativa percentages they end up containing.

Chemical Structure

THC delta-9 = the most psychoactive or mind-altering substance. Effects of this compound induce: alternation of mood, inability to think clearly and changes in sensory perception. This does not dissolve in the water in your body, only in the fats. That's why it's so hard to get it out of the system. It is also an antioxidant.

CBD = antipsychotic, it's more of a sedative and a physical "relaxer". This can make people a little sleepy. This compound also keeps paranoia fears lower without too much interference to the high. CBD is very important compound in medical treatment.

CBN = this is left after the body begins to break down cannabis in mans system. Effects are more described like an induced "drunk" feeling. This helps explain why eating cannabis products has such a different effect versus smoking it.

CB1 = It seems to help to relieve pain and lower the body temperature. It also tends to impair memory, reduce coordination and slow down food digestion. The pain, temperature and digestion parts are good news for people who suffer from terminal illness.
